Clans

Clans are the largest organisational unit in the Dark Brotherhood, consisting of up to three (3) Houses, each House can either be aligned to a single Order and thus only have members from that order, or they can be Multiorder Houses in which members come from all three orders. Clans are led by a Clan Summit, consisting of a Consul, the primary command position, and the Proconsul, the secondary command role. The Clan Summit is the highest possible position in the Brotherhood without sitting on the Dark Council, and as such, the highest levels of professionalism are expected from persons holding these positions. The Clan Summit is responsible for the cohesive operation of all three Houses and their Battleteams. Clans are unique from other units such as Houses in that they feature in a special type of Vendetta - the Clan Feud. In a Clan Feud, two Clans compete for the ownership of possessions. These possessions are usually acquired previously in other Vendettas, such as a Great Jedi War. Clans can also hold titles, similar to Houses, for placing in a Rite of Supremacy, such as "First Clan", "Second Clan" and so on. These titles are held for the duration between Rites and the use is discontinued upon another Clan holding that place.

Duties - The Clan Summit is a position of great responsibility, as they can be responsible for over one hundred members. They are responsible for the overall direction and operation of the Clan. Duties include:

  • Maintaining a Clan website, with a recent roster, news and events page, etc.
  • Running competitions within the Clan, with other Clans and organising Clan Feuds
  • Forwarding any communications from the Dark Council down the chain of command
  • Reporting to the Dark Council on a regular basis
  • Making promotion and/or award recommendations where appropriate
  • Set an example, both in conduct and activity (ie. being unfailing in all regards of the rules of conduct, participating in competitions, on message boards, etc)
  • Develop and maintain a Clan "identity" including a recent Clan history, list of possessions, etc.
  • Promote competitions and events

Powers - The Clan Summit has the power to award medals for activity and service. The Consul can award up to the Sapphire Blade, while the Proconsul can award up to the Grand Cross of the Dark Side. Both may award sanctioned medals for approved competitions. Appointment powers cover the appointment of House Leaders, with approval from the relevant Order Leader. In addition, the Consul has the power of appointment over the position of Proconsul, pending approval from the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master. Finally, the Clan Summit may recommend promotion for any Clan member based upon service, pending approval by the Master-at-Arms.

Appointment - The Consul is appointed by the Dark Council, while the Proconsul is usually appointed by the Consul, with approval from the Dark Council.

Note on Clones - Clones are "alternate personalities" within the Dark Brotherhood (one person having more than one Brotherhood character). While this may sound like fun, the system is open to several types of abuse. In the past clones were necessary because of order-restrictions on competitions, which no longer exist. Therefore having clones is illegal. If you have a Clone in the Brotherhood, immediantly report its existance to the Deputy Grand Master and the Justicar. Failure to follow the rules on clones stated above can result in removal of all clones and courtmartial by the CoJ for "False Statements".
